Great Water ES5Q whole house filter review
By Nathan Bond
I've been really happy with the Great Water ES5Q. Two things stand out for me: the mineral stage and the automatic digital backflush. They're the parts I keep coming back to when I think about why I like it.
The mineral stage appeals to me
Great Water describes this stage as adding minerals back into the water. I like having that included alongside the filtration. It's one of the features I value most about the system.
Less routine cleaning
The automatic backflush is the other big plus. It flushes collected dirt from the first stage, which cuts down on manual cleaning. That is a practical benefit I appreciate.
It doesn't mean there is no upkeep. Great Water still calls for cartridge replacement and occasional checks. But having the dirt flushing happen automatically is a part of the design I'm very happy with.
The whole setup
I also like that it serves the whole house. The sediment and carbon stages, pressure gauges and service bypass round out the package. The bypass keeps water available during servicing, which is a thoughtful detail.
For me, the appeal is straightforward: the mineral stage I wanted, filtration throughout the house and less routine cleaning to think about. Those are the things I appreciate about having it.
